Q&A
What is the difference between Hemp and Marijuana?
We can see where the confusion comes from, especially since both plants are in the Cannabis family and the leaves can look similar. But as our moms like to remind us, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. And these two plants have very different “personalities,” starting with the chemical compounds within each. In a nutshell, hemp typically yields a higher amount of CBD and lower THC, whereas marijuana is much more abundant in THC. Both compounds interact with your body’s endocannabinoid system, but they have very different effects.
Q: What is THC?
A: THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is one of many compounds found in the resin secreted by glands of the marijuana plant. THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the high sensation.
Q: What is CBD?
A: CBD or Cannabidiol, which is a naturally occurring compound extracted from hemp plants and is non psychoactive. CBD is the most abundant cannabinoid found in hemp and is the second most well-known cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. CBD oil is made by first being extracted from hemp plants. After the CBD is isolated from the plant material, it is tested to determine the purity and potency. The CBD is then added to carrier oils and other ingredients to create different CBD oils and CBD products. The benefits CBD has to offer include relieving minor discomfort and supporting a positive mental state and overall health.
Q: What’s the difference between broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD?
A: Broad spectrum CBD oil contains multiple cannabinoids and terpenes present in the cannabis plant without THC. Full-spectrum CBD oil contains all cannabinoids and terpenes naturally present in the cannabis plant, including THC.
Q: What’s the difference between CBD oil and hemp oil?
A: Some use the terms CBD oil and hemp oil interchangeably. However, the two things are different. CBD oil is made from the flower, bud, stems, and leaves of the cannabis plant. Hemp oil or hempseed oil is made from the hemp seeds of the cannabis plant and contains no THC.
Q: How do I use CBD oil?
A: Most people use CBD oil sublingually, placing a drop of oil underneath the tongue, then holding it for 30 seconds before swallowing. Others mix CBD oil with foods or beverages.
As with a lot of things in life, the key to success is Consistency. It’s no different with CBD. Just using it here and there, every so often, won’t give you the full therapeutic benefits of CBD. A daily dose, on the other hand, stimulates your cannabinoid receptors, creating a chemical response to help balance and maintain your endocannabinoid system.
